The proposition sounds inverted — build the world's most heat-sensitive infrastructure in one of its hottest places — but the arithmetic has converted the sceptics. Solar power at record-low tariffs feeds immersion-cooled compute halls whose liquid systems care little about ambient air, and the world's AI developers have responded with the longest leases the data-centre industry has seen.
The design breakthroughs are hydrological as much as electrical: closed-loop immersion cooling cuts water consumption by more than nine-tenths against evaporative designs, answering the objection that desert compute would drink what deserts lack. Waste heat, useless for district heating here, is piped instead to desalination pre-treatment — an integration only possible where both plants share a fence line.
The strategic logic runs deeper than economics. Compute is becoming a sovereign resource, and the region intends to host it rather than rent it. The first campuses are fully committed years before completion; the question the market now asks is not whether the desert can cool the machines, but how fast it can build them.
